Nekochan changelog Anonymous No.125
I have pushed an update. This script is vibecoded and the LLM doesn't keep track of version numbering. So I will arbitrarily call the previously live version v0.1 and this one v0.2.

# What's new in v0.2
- "Top boards" in the sidebar has been replaced with a board filter. This way you can aggregate just the boards that interest you.
- Yotsuba Blue theme. Boards can now be specified as NSFW and when that isn't checked, Yotsuba B is used. Additionally, any board filter that doesn't show NSFW boards likewise uses Yotsuba B, but it will use the regular Yotsuba as soon as at least one NSFW board is included.
- Cleaner interface:
- The Recent Threads list now shows just the titles (no longer the boards).
- "Create thread" is now to the right of the name form.
- Subject and File forms are marked with just an asterix, while "* Required" is only spelt out at the bottom. These forms are now also as wide as the comment form.
- The board list now starts with a 2 column block and only expands to a third one when there are 21 boards, and a fourth one when there are 31 boards. So it starts with up to 10 boards per column. After that it will start showing up to 20 boards per column and when the 81st board is created, they overflow into a dedicated "full board list" page.
- As a result the 3 blocks at the bottom (new thread, board list, new board) are equally wide until the site is more populated with boards and more columns are added.
- OPs of over 20 lines are now truncated in board overviews.
- There are no vertical lines to the left of nested replies anymore.
- There is no more "reply to comment tree" in between replies. Instead, every comment has its own reply button. For longer comment trees (with at least 3 nested replies), the bottom reply has an extra "reply to parent" button so that the user doesn't need to scroll up if they want to add a general reply to that tree.
- There is now a (hidden) Moderator Control Panel that allows deletion of posts or the files only, and IP based banning.

You will need to clear your cache in order for everything to display properly.

It isn't perfect yet. I actually think nested replies looked better with the vertical lines. However, there were so many changes lying in wait that if I waited longer than this, the changelog was going to get too long and I'd probably lose track of a few things in documenting the changes. Expect a new update soon enough however that fixes the indentation of nested replies. All in all I'm really happy with this. The script now has even more unique features. Feel free to share your feedback here as well.

Another detail I forgot to add is that inside the comment box, the Title and Comment forms aren't cluttered with gray instruction text anymore. Only the name form shows Anonymous in gray. It looks much less sloppy (slop-like?) as a result.

Oh yeah, I also made it so that nested replies show properly on overview boards. Plus the algorithm for how many comments to show is: up to three top-level comments with their two most recent replies when there are nested replies to show. Alternatively, if the five most recent replies are top-level comments, then it shows up to five top-level comments (like on 4chan).

So this is what I meant by there is too much to document, I keep thinking of other changes. Another one is that it now shows two return links at the top inside threads: one for the current board expression (which was specified through the filter and defaults to * if a thread is opened from the homepage), and another to return to the board that contains the currently opened thread.

Another small change is that the reply form no longer shows a subject line.

Tiny update: I have renamed the technology board to tech and videogames to vidya. This way they are still descriptive, but don't take as much room in the navbar. This website is diverging from 4chan / most chan websites in this way: I'm choosing a balance between descriptiveness and brevity. Rather than other imageboards which are mostly brief with two letters oftentimes, at the cost of almost no descriptiveness. This is one example of how this website actually takes inspiration from Reddit, which at least with the old interface, had a list of full subreddit names in the navbar.

Another thing I forgot to mention is that the Recent Threads list now shows them in bump order so that it's synchronized with the board itself. Before, it showed them in creation order.
